Hi! I'm Josh.
That’s actually me over there in that picture. No, behind the cat. (Let’s be honest — who would you rather have a giant picture of?)
Writing has been a part of my life as far back as I can remember, and I knew very early on that I wanted to be an author. I have a vivid memory of copying the text from one of the Chronicles of Narnia books by hand to prove to myself that I could one day really do this author thing.
I’m not sure why no one told me about “typewriters” or “computers” or why I’m using quotes around those words, but I’m pretty sure I managed to at least get a few chapters in before abandoning that bit of insanity.
After growing up reading a mix of Stephen King and Frank Herbert and Robert Jordan, among others, and studying creative writing in school, I worked in movies and TV for a decade doing all kinds of fun stuff — including voicing a few background characters in an animated show I worked on and getting one whole line I wrote into a movie. Good times.
Then life happened, as it often does. My son was born, and I tried really hard to give up “creative” writing as my wife and I built a marketing agency and I spent the bulk of my time writing “content” for all kinds of businesses. (Ever want to learn about the exciting world of bollards? I’m your guy.)
I held out for the bulk of another decade, but right around pandemic time the dam burst, and I needed to tell stories again. To create worlds and characters and talk back to everyone dancing around in my head.
Since then, I’ve been pounding away at a probably-too-ambitious MG/YA sci-fi series (it’s not that I haven’t decided; I really want it to span the characters’ adolescent/teen years and grow with my imaginary readers), coming up for air to write a short story or two, and generally just immersing myself in the continually evolving writing and publishing world.
It’s going to be a journey, by my bags are packed and I’m ready to go. Wanna come with?
